Differentiation Activities
Tiering by Complexity:
After whole group reading of a current events issue in the Time for Kids magazine on population , students will complete a related activity differentiated by complexity.
Group A: Students debate the serious impact of population explosion; each side defending a different viewpoint. They must provide credible evidence to support their opinions and arguments.
Group B: Students will conduct a survey of peer awareness and understanding of population explosion. They will design a limited number of questions and design how to report their results with charts or in a news cast.
Group C: Students will write a public service announcement using jingles, slogans, or art to convey why population growth in third world countries is a problem and steps people can take to help solve the problems.
